Please join me in welcoming Audrey Romero to BrightStar Education & Institute of Technology as our new Human Resources Director. We are excited to add this position to our company and that Audrey Romero will provide her expertise in developing this new role.
Lastly, please join me in congratulating Alicia Fresquez as she is assuming a lead role with the payroll & benefits function.

Gena has been with Institute of Technology for 6 years. In that time, she has moved her way up to the position of Lead Financial Aid Officer.

With her excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, she has been able to exceed all of her annual goals to date. For example, she has processed 100% of all her starts this year within 30 days. Also, she’s on her ninth week in a row for processing all terminated students in a timely manner.

Gena has a “can do” attitude. She approaches each new task with a focus on “how can we make this easier and more efficient for us as a team?” Her attention to detail promptly recognizes missing items that can halt the funding process. Gena’s genuine compassion and patience for the IOT students and staff makes her the person that everyone approaches with questions, and she will always go the extra mile to assist. Gena has a wonderful rapport with her students, and her ability to connect as well as her talent at explaining the Financial Aid concepts, are truly superior. She’s extremely reliable and provides great customer service.

Gena is an amazing individual and she is one of the reasons our graduates say that Institute of Technology staff members care. Thank you for all your hard work, Gena; you truly are an asset to IOT and BrightStar!

As the Stockton Campus’ Front Desk Receptionist and “Director of First Impressions,” Angela Phommahaxay is the first person to greet anyone who walks through the main entrance in the morning and afternoon. Angela is a hard working, dedicated, and professional individual who presents a positive first impression to students, prospective students, and visitors alike.

Angela is adept at multi-tasking and operates very effectively in a stressful, fast-paced environment. During peak periods of activity Angela is responsible for answering incoming calls, greeting guests, administering the Wonderlic SLE exam, taking student payments, signing off on FedEx shipments, keeping an eye on security monitors, and checking out remotes to instructors.

Angela is always willing to take on additional responsibilities and go the extra mile when needed. After serving several successful months as Stockton’s Student Success Leader, she decided she wanted to return to her “home” at the front desk since it was a better fit for her personally and professionally. Despite her comfort with the Receptionist position, she was asked again to move and be the Interim Registrar for 3-4 months while current Registrar, Erin Castro, is on Maternity leave this March. Angela was more than willing to train with Erin for 2-3 months prior to taking over, and she is now splitting her time at the Front Desk and learning all of the responsibilities of a professional Registrar.

As the first voice that people hear when they call the campus - and the first, and often last, face they see when they walk through the front door, Angela Phommahaxay represents the very best of the faculty and staff at IOT Stockton. She exemplifies the professional customer service culture that has been developed since the campus’ opening in November 2010. IOT Stockton and BSEG are fortunate to have Angela on our team, and we are pleased to award her as Employee of the Month for January.

Congratulations to the IOT Clovis Career Services Team!

October 2011 was a remarkable month for the Career Services team from Clovis. Through teamwork, creativity, and perseverance, this amazing group placed 132 students – more than any BSEG school has ever placed in a single month!

October 2011 was a remarkable month for the Career Services team from Clovis. Through teamwork, creativity, and perseverance, this amazing group placed 132 students – more than any BSEG school has ever placed in a single month!

The team has been aggressively pursuing relationships with key businesses people and organizations that would benefit from hiring a well-trained IOT grad. They send out postcards and mailers, deliver candy and donut boxes emblazoned with the IOT logo, and invite employers to visit and conduct interviews on campus. They also work hard to prepare students for success by conducting mock interviews and assisting with resume preparation and other job-seeking skills.

Every Advisor on the team met or surpassed the 21 placement mark this month. Leading the way with 24 placements was Elizabeth Matson, who works with medical grads. Elizabeth has a warm, outgoing demeanor that helps her connect with students. Lead Career Services Advisor, Penny Dhindsa, who also works medical, had 23 placements. Penny is an experienced employee with a strong background as an effective teacher in the medical division and in professional development. With a little help from the rest of the team, Penny and Elizabeth rejoiced over a record 49 medical division placements in October.

Tim Kearn added 22 placements to the team’s total in the HVAC and WGD departments. His dry sense of humor keeps the CS team laughing, and his calm demeanor bolsters students’ confidence. Tim’s partner in HVAC, Michael Ramos who also handles CERM, had 21 placements to his name. Michael has a contagious, outgoing personality that suits him well for working with employers and students.

Two Clovis CS team members familiar with 21 Club territory; Falina Marihart and Megan Arno each had 21 placements in October. Falina shines in her role in culinary! She used to handle marketing for IOT several years ago, and she also has her line of hats. Megan handles the Business Division and NST. She is a firecracker who goes the extra mile to connect employers to students and grads.

The team is strengthened by the work of Edia Camara, the Administrative Assistant who nurtures students and provides invaluable support to the advisors. The team is coached by Amanda Nash: an intelligent, articulate, and creative visionary who knows how to encourage her team. Amanda has kept the faith during difficult times for over a year, and IOT Clovis anticipates that this is the first of many “Century Club” months for Amanda and her team. IOT Clovis and BSEG are fortunate to have Amanda, Elizabeth, Penny, Tim, Michael, Falina, Megan, and Edia on our side, and we are pleased to award them as Employees of the Month for October. Congratulations to the Clovis Coyotes Career Services Team!
